Recent Activity on Connect - Feb. 17, 2012

There's been a lot happening on Connect recently! There was the first DNA Barcoding Training Workshop on “Tools of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics in DNA Barcoding”, held in Bangladesh this past week. We're also excited about the text book on DNA Barcoding by Professor Sankar Kumar Gosh, which has recently been published.

Two important announcements also made the news on Connect, including the launch of FREDIE (Freshwater Diversity Identification for Europe), and FunCode, a new barcoding database for fungi in Taiwan.

  • Dilnora Gouliamova researches DNA barcoding of yeasts associated with insects at the Institute of Microbiology
  • R. Jagadeeswaran is interested in barcoding of the plant parasitic nematode, Meloidogyne spp. at the Indian Institute of Pulses Research
  • Jitendra Kumar is a doctoral student at the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research
  • Chirlei Glienke is involved with the DNA barcoding initiative for conservation at UFPR
  • John Olayinka Atoyebi researches barcoding use in authentication at the National Centre for Genetic Resources & Biotechnology
  • Kelly Hadfield studies barcoding specific species of mosquitoes at the University of Guelph
  • Norbert Hidvégi is a doctoral student at Szent István University - Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology
  • Reyim Mamut is a doctoral student researching Lecanora species in China at Xinjiang University
  • Kapil is a doctoral student involved with the plant working group at Bharathidasan University
  • Amit Kumar is a post graduate student involved in the land plants group at CSIR-CIMAP
  • Pac Man is a project manager at Pan Genomics and researches barcodes in combinatorial genomics and industrial biotechnology
  • Natalia is involved with the vertebrates and museum life working groups at Instituto Humboldt
  • Masoomeh Ghobad-Nejhad is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Helsinki
  • Chao-Dong Zhu works in the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences
  • Carlos Antonio Inácio uses barcode data in taxonomy/systematic biology at the Universidade De Brasília
  • Dr. Kulendra Ch. Das is a Life Member of the Indian Science Congress Association and works at Mizoram University/Assam University 
  • Cao Huan-Xi is involved with the taxonomy of bees as a postgraduate student at Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Science
  • E Goud is a masters student at McGill University working on the community phylogenetic structure of Mont Sainte Hilaire, Quebec using DNA barcode-generated phylogeny
  • Dr. Ashutosh Das is an assistant professor at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University
