Interested in DNA Barcoding of Lepidoptera of India

Hello Friends,

I have just undergone 21 days training in DNA Bar coding of Animals, primarily based on CO I mt gene and use of Genious Software, DNeasy Blood and Tissue Kit under the guidance of Dr George Thomas and Dr Sanil George of Rajiv Gandhi Center of Biotechnology, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. It was more of Hands-on Training and less theoretical.

With this training, now i have sufficient confidence to enhance my morpho-taxonomic skills with molecular ones to workout Barcode of sufficient number of Lepidopteran species of India, many of which are pests of agricultural and Horticultural crops, and forest plant species.

Anybody from India, particularly North east willing to join hands to go for research projects on the said aspect.

Write to me on my email id apsingh_60@yahoo.co.in or call me on 0914203428.

Regards

well, i collected moths from Guwahati, Hafflong, Jatinga, Shillong, Cheerapunjee and some other sites. Punjabi university Museum has more than 200 identified species, including around 100 sp. of mine, from subfamily Pyraustinae of superfamily pyraloidea

I am working in the field of DNA barcoding for the last three years. Well to say about DBT's proposal I know it very well and two such project is undegoing in my lab. We provided hands on training to around 25 participants throughout India and many of the paricipants who have attended the hands have their own project now. Lets come to buisness, to work in northeast India you need to know this place very well and being only a part of the place you can give a good output. Our lab is working on all aspects of biodiversity of northeast India and have DBT infrastructural support as well. Its nice to find your keen interest in Norteast Biota......

Respected Maloyjo Joyraj Bhattacharjee Sahib,

Perhaps you don't know, DBT has one scheme for priority development of Biotechnological Hubs in North East; others can join as coordinators for passing on know how and contribute in research; part of funding can be shared; if you are interested we can prepare project; secondly most of the lepidopteran species on which i did Phd in 1988 were collected from Northeast; so i have some attachment with NE . However, my PhD   was based on morphotaxonomy
