DNA Barcode database development and faunal diversity in India

Genetics is, more than ever, an essential and efficient tool for species diversity studies and the use of genetic applications will be of greater use to formulate management decisions for the conservation and restoration of the Natural ecosystems and endangered taxa.

However, the widest use of molecular markers in DNA Barcode database developement is lacking for various animals groups in India.

With the initiative by the MoEF, Government of India along with the premier institute Zoological Survey of India can certainly enrich the understanding of faunal diversity richness in India which can help the conservation managers to understand, evaluate and implement management initiatives and policies within local, national, and international arenas.

Best wishes for the initiative.

Thanks.
