The second post in an ongoing series explaining how to make the most of this online community...
You might have noticed that we now have Photos and Videos sections on the site. We’ve already started adding images and videos from the Mexico conference, and we want to encourage you to add your own barcoding media.
So how does this work? Well, there are a variety of ways to go about it. Both of these new services allow you to quickly and easily upload files from your own computer. But they also both allow you to import/link files from existing social media sites, which is nice if you have already started using Flickr for photos, or YouTube or Vimeo (or a different service) for videos.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when adding photos: Its best to upload photos in batches of similar content and then create an album to put them in. Also, tagging your photos is a great idea, even if you just batch tag them as you create your album. With hundreds of photos on Connect already, tags are essential. Descriptions are really nice as well, although admittedly these can be time consuming to add.
The same goes for videos in regards to adding tags and descriptions. In addition, with videos, consider the limitations of the Connect site before deciding to upload directly, as opposed to using another site such as Vimeo or YouTube. While uploading videos to Connect is easy and free, each video must be less than 100MB in size. If you have substantial video content, you might consider using Vimeo, which, for a modest annual fee, will allow you to upload a ton. If you do upload to Vimeo, don't forget to come back to Connect and add links to your videos so we can all enjoy them. Also, if you already have video content up somewhere, please share it with the Connect community by embedding it through the Videos section.
When you are browsing photos and videos, please comment and rate these resources freely, as it will assist others in finding the most useful media on the site.
We are really interested in both knowing what types of media content you have to share, and what media content you would like to see on Connect. Please share your thoughts in the comment field below.
