international online community for dna barcoding professionals
Fellow Barcoders,
If you are interested in how DNA barcoding is empowering freshwater biosurveillance and conservation, check out the special section of the new issue of the Journal of the North American Benthological Society called "DNA Barcoding: Genomic Solutions for Benthology". Thanks to all of my NABS colleagues and editors for helping to turn 2 NABS annual meeting special symposia into this special series of diverse articles. Next week I will post some photos and stories from the field (both Iraq and the Smoky Mountains), but here are two previous articles about why barcoding the benthos is important (and fun!).

And here are two documentaries about the amazing work that my colleagues at Nature Iraq and the Twin Rivers Institute at the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani are doing in the Tigris/Euphrates River Basin: "Resurrecting Eden" (60 Minutes, CBS), and "Braving Iraq" (Nature, PBS).
Happy sequencing,
C.J. Geraci
