María P. Martín replied to Conrad Schoch's discussion 'ITS barcode requirements V2' in the group Fungi
"In the different fungi that I have studied, only some Annulohypoxylon specimens have long ITS region (without including the last five bases from 18S), and including 5.8S is around 730 bp."

María P. Martín replied to Conrad Schoch's discussion 'ITS barcode requirements V2' in the group Fungi
"Related to point 5, and the inclusion of "NNN". I was quite worried related to the long ITS2 region with multiple repetions in some species, such as Bremia lactucae complex (around 2500 bp) . At least from herbarium material, it was…"

CBOL proposal standard for fungi

Dear Conrad,Thanks for posting the CBOL proposal for fungi. About the standards, just some days ago, I have come back to review sequences from Bremia lactuca complex. In these species, the ITS2 region have multiple repetions and the length of this region can arrived to more that 2500 bp. We have to do always the PCR in parts and usually we do not have the complete 5.8S sequence. In these cases, such as this genus/specimens, it would be possible to have in the 5.8S some NNNNN in barcode…See More

María P. Martín replied to Conrad Schoch's discussion 'Definition of an acceptable Fungal ITS barcode' in the group Fungi
"Dear all,  Related to the  deleted 9th criterion "barcoding including introns". In my opinion, we should include that  the intron/intross position must be annotate. In ascomycotina, they are many exemples where two ITS…"

Fourth International Barcode of Life Conference at University of Adelaide

November 28, 2011 to December 3, 2011
The University of Adelaide will host the first-ever Southern Hemisphere barcode conference, co-organized by CBOL and co-hosted by several biodiversity institutions and initiatives in Australia.  The goals of the conference are: highlighting the great progress barcoding has made since the Mexico City Conference in November 2009; learning about barcoding activities in Australia and the region; and bringing barcoders together to exchange ideas and plan new activities. The week’s events will start…See More
