Henrik Nilsson replied to Keith Seifert's discussion 'Defining the boundaries of the ITS barcode' in the group Fungi
"Well in fact only one is non-fungal: >00062Mts_mtsctlts__Motse_J01871__X00525 (Mus musculus)"

Henrik Nilsson replied to Keith Seifert's discussion 'Defining the boundaries of the ITS barcode' in the group Fungi
">Keith said: >It will be helpful to establish a standard for ITS barcodes, and the proposal >that I put on the table is that it be between these two motifs.   This sounds good to me. What about adding an additional requirement: that…"

Conrad Schoch replied to Henrik Nilsson's discussion 'Mortierella exposed' in the group Fungi
"The latest is that it was decided not to include a type modifier with GenBank accessions. The current field indicated as 'type' refers to something else, 'tissue type'. So for now we are stuck using the notes field for this.…"

Arthur Schuessler replied to Henrik Nilsson's discussion 'Mortierella exposed' in the group Fungi
"We are defining some epitypes for the Glomeromycota. Several types do not "exist" or material is mixed, or degraded - so these species are somehow "dead". They can be "redefined" by careful selection of epitypes, that…"

Conrad Schoch replied to Henrik Nilsson's discussion 'Mortierella exposed' in the group Fungi
"Yes, that is good to see. Off topic, there is also a good paper by some of the same authors on evolutionary processes of fungal fruiting bodies in Systematic Biology. Speaking of type sequences, we are finally working on including a 'type'…"

Mortierella exposed

Speaking of ITS sequencing of types, here's a real dynamite study: Nagy et al New Phytol, in press (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1469-8137.2011.03707.x/abstract) They sequenced a truckload of Mortierella types and HQ cultures and were able to explain a whole lot of the unidentified Mortierella sequences in GenBank. And there are certainly many of those. I maintain a list (…See More
