I have chosen marine fin and shellfish 'species' as my principal area of work. DNA barcodes may redefine the 'species' limits of the Snappers, Croakers, Sea catfishes, Sole, Big-eyes, Threadfins, Grunts, Sardines, Barracudas, Tunas, Rays, black tiger shrimp and sundry shrimps, sea-snails etc. There are equipment and funding challenges facing my lab. but we are starting with the simplest tasks first- the acquisition, curation and fixation of biologics prior to seeking support of multilateral agencies for partnership as we move towards the full DNA barcodes of these marine fish groups and their 'species'.
