I have recently been awarded   Major Research Project in the above subject by UGC, New Delhi, India. Very soon , I will be getting grant for the launch of the project. My fellows and other users of this forum are requested to recommend NET qualified Candidates with background in molecular taxonomy (particularly CO1 based DNA Barcoding) and traditional (morphological) taxonomy of Insects for one position of JRF. Enrollment for PhD will be done with Panjab University, Chandigarh or Punjabi…

Interested in DNA Barcoding of Lepidoptera of India

Hello Friends,

I have just undergone 21 days training in DNA Bar coding of Animals, primarily based on CO I mt gene and use of Genious Software, DNeasy Blood and Tissue Kit under the guidance of Dr George Thomas and Dr Sanil George of Rajiv Gandhi Center of Biotechnology, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. It was more of Hands-on Training and less theoretical.

With this training, now i have sufficient confidence to enhance my morpho-taxonomic skills with molecular ones to workout…

Good day, Dr. Singh!

I am working on the methodology of my special problem proposal which is about a local web-based repository of DNA barcodes and related media of endemic chicken in the Philippines. I am trying to figure out how a specific DNA barcode sequence gets validated and verified when it's stored in a database.

And to answer your second question, no sir.

You need training for what? You have already done taxonomy? Did you not use molecular methods for identification?

I am no authority to arrange for any training and I am sure IISER does not provide trainings but why don't you try in your college? I don't think any training as such is required for Barcoding. You learn as you proceed through it.

I am working at IISER, Pune with Dr. Ramana Athreya.

We have all the facilities required for Molecular identification. You want to start afresh with barcoding of? and from?

I am working on Moths of Eaglenest Biodiversity park, Arunachal Pradesh.

Where exactly in the North East did you collect specimens from?
