Field Operations

Creating barcode reference records often begins with a collecting event in the field, but without the right techniques the specimen may never qualify as a high-quality barcode record. Come exchange information on field protocols!See More

Chris,

I wanted to let you know that the flickr importing function is now in place. Now any member with a flickr account can go to their member page or the photos widget on the homepage and add photos from their desktop, from flickr or even from their phone or email. Simply choose "add photos" and follow the instructions. In the case of flickr, you will need to authorize access to their flickr account (a simply opt-in button) and then choose the photos to import, either by photoset, tags or what have you. You can then display those on you My Profile page as a slideshow, thumbs or albums. You can also arrange them into albums, view everyone's photos, etc. Please try it out when you have a chance and we'll see how it goes. If you'd prefer to showcase them on a group page instead of on your page, let me know and I'll figure out how that's done.

Hello and welcome Chris!

Good to see you again in Mexico City. I will be very interested in your thoughts on the network as you have an opportunity to tinker with it over the coming weeks.

As host, I am contacting everyone to suggest a few things that you can do to take advantage of our online community.

Simple Things You Can Do

After completing your online profile you should add yourself to the member map – this adds a geographic location to each community member.
A great next step is to invite your colleagues and search our members for people you know and invite them to be your colleague on the network.
Another thing to do is to browse our Forum and ask a question or leave a comment.
Please join a Group or start your own, as groups are a great way to express your special interest, be it a taxonomic group, a regional or organizational affiliation.
Have a question? Ask one of our hosts or post it to our FAQ page.

Some Advanced Things You Can Do

If you have something to say, start a Blog. Simply choose “Add a Blog Post” under Blogs. Blogging has never been easier.
If you already have a blog or another online resource, you can share it either on your profile page or through our rss pages. Just ask me how.
Manage a Group! Create a group and invite colleagues to join the network and your group. Use the “Send Message to Group” feature to email everyone in your group, start discussion threads specific to your group’s interests, add widgets and more.

For assistance with any of the things please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Again, thank you for joining our growing online community for barcoders. I look forward to connecting with you soon.

-Matthew Fisher
