Keywords about my barcoding projects (separate each choice with a comma)
DNA Barcoding, Caspian basin, Salmo trutta fario ‎
I’m involved in the following aspects of barcoding:
Fieldwork/specimen collecting, Museum work/specimen curation, Labwork/generating barcode sequences, Management of barcode data, Using barcode data in taxonomy/systematic biology, Using barcode data for other applications, Organizing/managing barcoding projects
Current Project(s)
DNA Barcoding identification of Salmo trutta fraio using Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) ‎Sequences
One of the main goals of establishing GenBank is providing the beast Preservation of aquatic genetic ‎resources and their biodiversity as national capitals by using biotechnological approaches. Collecting ‎biological samples of different aquatic species, preparation and long term storing, genetic recording ‎of threatened and under extinction species and using biotechnology methods for Conservation, ‎management and survival of aquatic species are other duty of GenBank of aquatic species of Iran. ‎
This valuable and beautiful fish is living in freshwaters of Latyian, Lar and Karaj dams and Gahar ‎Lake as well as upstream rivers of Iran. This fish usually is caught as a fishing sport by hook. Since ‎this fish has the ability to develop aquaculture in Iran, it could be a part of strategic plans of breeding ‎fish to increase fish production. Genetic recourses of this fantastic fish are completely original and it ‎is not happened any genetic manipulation for it. This fish is introduced as a native fish from Iran, in all ‎international scientific recourses, which no genetic research has been done on it, so we were very ‎lucky that it has not submitted through non Iranian people. There is a question that indeed how many ‎species of Salmo trutta fario are living are freshwater rivers of southern Caspian Sea? ‎
To protect this fish from extinction some urgent cases seem necessary:‎
• Identification of all species
• Matching molecular and morphometrical methods for the beast identification
• Defining DNA Barcoding for COI gene to recognition of species
• Definition of Inter- and Intra-species genetic distance to study the phylogenetic relationship
One of the main goals of this project is submitting the genetic information of Salmo trutta fario as a ‎native fish from Islamic republic of Iran in international scientific community. ‎
‎ Key words: DNA Barcoding, Caspian basin, Salmo trutta fario ‎
Aims:‎
Since these species are at risk of extinction, it is necessary to identify their genetic markers to ‎protect them from being exported illegally. So the following activity should be done:‎
‎1-‎ Species identification and possible hybrids of the species
‎2-‎ Surveying of phylogenetic relationship between species inland water resources of Iran
‎3-‎ DNA Barcoding and submitting data in GenBank
