I started to work on DNA barcoding only a short while ago. Now, I am getting increasingly convinced that I need a fairly furnished laboratory locally, to support teaching and research. Local capacity is unavailable at the moment. One of the best ways to develop local capacity is by providing practical training locally. This will stimulate younger generation to become interested in DNA barcoding. Nigeria is a region of high biodiversity with limitless opportunity for DNA barcoding only if the facilities are available for a sound academic training in molecular systematics. At the moment, lack of basic facilities to provide academic training in molecular sytematics is a limiting factor for DNA barcoding. How can you fully help DNA barcoding, in the long and short term, without a laboratory of your own?
