FDA Approves DNA Barcoding as a Regulatory Protocol to Detect Seafood Fraud

The FDA website with protocols and standard sequences for species identification of select commercial fishes using DNA Barcoding is now online. The list will be updated continuously as new things are added, names change, etc. This represents the first major application of barcoding to combat food fraud and address consumer safety issues stemming from market substitution in seafood and I would like to congratulate FISH-BOL colleagues at FDA for their efforts to make this happen!
