international online community for dna barcoding professionals
The deadline for abstract submission for the 4th International Barcode of Life Conference is next Wednesday, June 15. I'd like to encourage the members of this and other groups to consider sharing a poster or talk under one of the following abstract submission topics:
C15. Barcoding, Public Outreach and Citizen Science
C16. Barcoding and Formal Classroom Education
To learn more about the session that will likely combine these two topics, you can read the Session Spotlight interview.
See you in Adelaide!

Permalink Reply by Maria Catalina on June 9, 2011 at 7:44am I would like to contribute my experience of an internship at the J. Craig Institute last summer and how to implement astrobiology in the classroom using Barcode of Life, but I am a 7th grade teacher who has no money for travel and accommodations. Would I qualify for a Bursary and is there a fund for travel?
My project MMARS is now on the UN website and I am ready to have my classroom set up as a lab for DNA extraction, amplification, etc to prepare sample my students will send to you and then, if they find a new organism, they can name it.

I would like to also offer my services for any logistical support you might need at the conference.
Kindest Regards,
Maria
Maria, Your project sounds perfect for this session and I enthusiastically encourage you to submit an abstract. You can apply for travel support here. I very much hope to meet you and hear about your project in Adelaide!
Permalink Reply by Maria Catalina on June 15, 2011 at 8:30pm Hi Karen, I actually have 3 distinct abstracts I could submit. 2 for citizen science and my Chile project on the UN site is appropriate for a general plenary session because it will include announcement for funding from the Chilean government for researchers. How can I get this information to the committee in charge of the travel bursary because without that I certainly can not attend. I did mark that I am submitting an abstract but will they stop looking after finding only one? Please let me know so I can polish them up and get them in tonight. I would also like to let them know that I can provide staff support at the conference if needed.
thanks,
Maria
