Connect.BarcodeofLife.net

international online community for dna barcoding professionals

Welcome to Connect, the DNA Barcoder community network!

We hope this network will be a place for communication and collaboration on a global scale, overcoming the rather dispersed nature of DNA barcoder researchers and enthusiasts.

As a first step, why not introduce yourself to the community via the comment box below? Including your name, institution, interest in DNA barcoding, and what you hope to get from this community would be a great way to start.

Hello C. Vadaivalagan,

Glad to have heard from you, Thanks. Yes certainly I would like to work with you. So please why dont you mail me brief description of your work on vijay.muley@gmail.com or vijay@iscb.org. Prior to mail, I think you should first discuss it with your supervisor and get his consent.

Looking forward to have healthy discussion with you soon.

Hello all, I am Jivan Shakya, currently working as Research Associate at CMDN, Nepal. I am currently undertaking a pilot project on barcoding medicinal plants of high economic value of Nepal. This is our attempt to optimize the protocols and looking forward to upgrade to include more plants and animals in the future.

The pilot project aims to barcode Asparagus racemosus, Choerospondias axillaris and Dactylorhiza hatagirea on tha basis of rbcL, matK, psbA_trnH and ITS2 sequences. So far, the pilot project has been able to amplify these loci and sequencing is in process.

I would very much be thankful to the barcode community members for their suggestions and advices and opportunites for possible collaborations.

Regards

Jivan

hello im rohini khanapurkar doing P.hd in mgm university of health sciences, navi mumbai,India. Basically ihad planned to work on DNA barcoding of medicinal plant Tinospora cordifolia ,but while working i found tat carrying out all practicals and working in this is very expensive ,as my project is unaided, and whole funding  is done by myself , but its unaffordable so im stuck now please can anyone help me find funds for my project , im very keen on working but only problem is funds. im feeling very helpless so please can anyone help me in this regard. i'll be very thankful!!!

Dear Rohini,

for your works you need not worry any more just comedown to Dr. B.A.M.University, Aurangabad (Paul Hebert Centre for DNA Barcoding and Biodiversity Studies), One of your senior is also working with us (Ms. Rashmi Sharma).

Dear Dr Khedkar,

I am heading insect molecular biology unit in department of Entomology at Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana (Pb). We are extensively involved in DNA barcoding of specific groups of Agriculturally important insect species since last four years. Through this letter i appreciate establishment of PHC for DNA barcoding and biodiversity and your contributions towards supporting and helping new scientists to meet their interests in DNA barcoding. All the best.

Dear Dr. Gupat,

thanks for your complement, I am attending 4th barcode of life conference at Adelaide. Looking at our contribution in BoL, we are really lacking we need more intensive efforts. This is great news you are woring in th field of agriculturally importent insects. Great!

Dear Gulab D Khedkar,

Thank you sir for your help extended , but before coming down to your centre can i contact you personally sir, can you please give me your contact number.

My email is gdkhedkar@gmail.com and you can call me on 02402100220 (Lab telephone)

Thanks,

Hello, I am Vajira. I work for Biotechnology Unit of Ceylon Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research - Sri Lanka/ITI. Currently I am working on genetic barcoding of Cinnamomum sps. I have completed C.zeylanicum and waiting to be accepted by the GenBank. I used BOLD and referred CBOL publications and I found all these materials available online are very very helpful. My view is to develop ITI as the center for genetic barcoding in Sri lanka which is one of the biodiversity hotspots in the world.

Since I have just graduated and I self learned about genetic barcoding, even though I were able to complete one project I am in need of getting more exposed to the barcoding research. I need to gain more and more knowledge and training on this field. If any member can help me turn my institute to the Center of genetic barcoding in Sri Lanka by helping me giving a training or building a collaboration with us I will be immensely grateful to all of you. Thanks

Hello Vjira,

Nice to meet you. I Am Vadivalagan, working as Senior Research Scholar in Department of Zoology, Bharathiar University, Tamil Nadu, India. we all so focus to collaborators now a days we concentrate DNA Barcoding of Moth species and we have exposal to all techniques regarding DNA Barcoding. If possible we would like to collaborate with you

Thank you

Hello Mr. Vadivalagan,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply. I am really happy to make a collaboration with scientists from my  neighboring country. Last month I attended a conference which Prof Swaminathan was present. I was really impressed how India has gone far in Biotechnology. I am sure both of our institutes and countries can benefit from initiating a collaboration. How can I initiate a discussion with you and your institute.

Thanks a lot.

Hello Mr.Vajira

Don’t worry we will meet shortly if possible, I plan to visit your institute. That time we discusses fully about our research. If any visiting scholar opportunity is there in your institute means. Can you send me that procedure?
