Connect.BarcodeofLife.net

international online community for dna barcoding professionals

Welcome to Connect, the DNA Barcoder community network!

We hope this network will be a place for communication and collaboration on a global scale, overcoming the rather dispersed nature of DNA barcoder researchers and enthusiasts.

As a first step, why not introduce yourself to the community via the comment box below? Including your name, institution, interest in DNA barcoding, and what you hope to get from this community would be a great way to start.

Hi I'm Jane Moran and I chair Australia's sub-committee on plant health diagnostic standards (SPHDS). I am interested in bar coding from a biosecurity and quarantine perspective, especially how it relates to diagnostics and how to delineate species.

cheers

Jane

I am professor researcher in Biological Oceanography at Lebanese University. I have been working for many years in the biodiversity and taxonomy of most marine groups in the Mediterranean Sea, particularly  from Plankton community ( Phyto & Zooplankton). I have in my background  big taxonomic list of hundreds of species ( some published), I wish I like to be introduced in the Barcoding techniques in order to assess the detailed taxonomy of the the identified species in using the new technology. What should I do ? how can I proceed ......Is it possible ?

Hello everybody!

My name is Irene Routio and I practically know nothing about barcoding:). I collect land snails because very few people in Finland know these species.I have collected samples and keep them freezed. I work as a volunteer at Zoological Museum, University of Turku, Finland.

keywords: land snails, zoogeography, SW-Finland

hello to everyone, i´m Oscar González, graduate student in the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, México. I usually work with the distribution, taxonomy and biogeography at amphibians and reptiles. Now I´m going to start to work with the complex of Aspidoscelis gularis, i´m going to determinate the BARCODE to the species of the complex.

I hope somebody can help me and guide me to the basic things and information to the barcode of life.

Dear all,

Its Praveen here, working as Production Manager at Biotron Healthcare, Mumbai. I am happy to be part of this wonderful site. Its good to share my knowledge and also to learn from all people who are already there.

Those who are in India please write to me if you are facing any problem in extracting the DNA whatever the sample it is. I will be happy to help you out.

Thanks

Praveen

The DNA barcoding of terrestrial and fresh water invasive species in South Africa is a collaborative project between the Early Detection and Rapid Response Programme of the The Working for Water Programme and South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and the African Centre for DNA Barcoding (ACDB) at the University of Johannesburg, funded by the Natural Resource Management Programme. We aim to collect invasive plant and animal samples in South Africa for barcoding and provide access to the barcode data through the BOLD system to aid in identification.

Hellow, I am Dr. Mercy Mathew at present researcher and faculty member in Walter Sisulu University, NMD campus, Eastern Cape, South Africa. My research is mainly on Amphibians .Interested in the barcoding of amphibians of South Africa. Would like to know about oppertunities for collaborative research . Is there any facility for training programme which I can  attend .

Regards

M.Mathew

Hi Dr Mathew,

we would love to work with you on barcoding your Amphibians, One of us will be visiting colleagues in NMMU and Rhodes in the next few week- she could maybe schedule  a meeting with you to discuss your project and possible collaborations.

Contact e-mails for future communication regarding your project:

Hai,

I have responded to this reply and was waiting for an oppertunity to meet the invasive group member for further discussions .So far I didnot get a reply.Looking forward to hear from you

Hello everyone,

I am Vijaykumar Muley, working as Assistant Professor in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad in collaboration with DNA barcode group working at Paul hebert centre for DNA barcoding and biodiversity studies in the same campus. I have completed my doctoral studies in bioinformatics on the aspects of sequence based genome-scale protein-protein functional linkages prediction which comes under system biology. I have also equipped with skills required for phylogenetic analysis. I would be glad to collaborate with researchers working in the field of biodiversity. I can assist in statistical and computational analysis of sequence and quantitative data.

Looking forward for positive responses

Dear sir,
